Growing Support and Alive
We’d like to announce the exciting news that Growing Support has merged with Alive.
Since 2014 Growing Support has specialised in social and therapeutic gardening, and like Alive, works with older people in care. Both Growing Support and Alive are widely recognised as driving forwards innovative approaches to improving the wellbeing of older people in care. By joining forces through this merger, Alive and Growing Support combine years of expertise, as well as unique and complementary approaches to improving later life for older people in care.
Connection to the natural world is proven to benefit wellbeing and mental health. Engaging in ‘green exercise’ such as gardening, has significant benefits including reduced anxiety, improved mood and the exercise of vital muscle groups.

Growing Support’s remarkable legacy will carry on under Alive. The Alive ‘Growing Support’ Social and Therapeutic Horticulture workshops offer older people opportunities to access nature and the outdoors, in ways which give them purpose and a chance to socialise and have fun. Depending on the season and participants’ interests, activities will vary from growing fruit, vegetables and flowers, to wildlife spotting and nature-based crafts such as willow weaving or felt making.
If you're based in Bristol or the surrounding area, you can book an Alive ‘Growing Support’ Social and Therapeutic Horticulture workshop for your residents by calling Alive on 0117 377 4756 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
