The Grateful Society
Each year the Grateful Society funds us to deliver activity sessions to over 400 of the most isolated people in Greater Bristol.
The project has many different facets, from intergenerational engagement through two Paint Pals projects, to activity sessions in care homes and one to one sessions for severely isolated older people who are unable to join in with group activities. These individuals are mostly bed-bound and living with advanced dementia and/or a degenerative neurological condition. In addition to this, Alive is working with 14 day centres to reach Two of the most unique parts of the project are targeting day centres for guided reminiscence sessions and mentored session for carehomes.
This year we will deliver:
- 120 Alive activity sessions in 14 day centres and 6 care homes in Greater Bristol
- 80 half-hour one-to-one sessions for 30 severely isolated older people
We are continuing to expand the range of activities we offer, in order to best meet older people’s abilities and preferences. The workshops we deliver will include music and poetry, dance and movement, guided reminiscence, storytelling, local history, current affairs, creative art and art appreciation. All our activities focus on strengthening older people’s personal identities by connecting with their individual life stories, and wherever possible participants dictate the content and direction of the sessions.
