Activity Worker – Dementia Meeting Centre
Location: Bristol, Portishead & Nailsea
Contract: 12 month contract
Salary: £26,300 FTE (pro rata)
Hours: 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday)
Looking for a job where you can make people smile every single day?
We’re looking for a warm, energetic and creative person to join our Dementia Meeting Centre team and help deliver engaging, meaningful sessions for people living with dementia and their carers. This isn’t a desk-based role. It’s about people.
One moment you might be leading a music session, sharing stories over a cup of tea, helping someone reconnect with a lifelong hobby, supporting a gardening activity or encouraging a member to join a group discussion. The next, you could be setting up the room, serving lunch, chatting with carers or helping a member feel comfortable and included. No two days are the same.
What stays constant is the sense of connection, laughter and purpose that comes from helping people feel valued, understood and part of a community.
About Our Meeting Centres
Alive’s Meeting Centres are vibrant, welcoming spaces where people living with dementia and their carers can spend time together, build friendships and take part in activities that focus on strengths, abilities and interests rather than limitations.
Our members are an incredible group of people with rich life experiences, stories, talents and humour. We work hard to create a place where everyone feels they belong.
The Role
We’re looking for someone who loves being around people and has the enthusiasm and confidence to help bring sessions to life. You’ll help plan and deliver creative, dementia-friendly activities, build relationships with members and carers, and contribute to a warm and supportive atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.
The role is physically and emotionally demanding at times. You’ll be on your feet for much of the day, helping set up and clear away, supporting members with different needs and responding to whatever the day brings.
But it’s also one of the most rewarding roles you’ll find. You’ll see first-hand the difference that genuine connection, creativity and kindness can make in someone’s life.
We’d love to hear from you if you:
Are naturally warm, friendly and enjoy meeting new people
Have lots of energy and enjoy being active and hands-on
Are creative and enjoy helping others take part in activities
Can confidently engage a group and encourage participation
Are patient, compassionate and a great listener
Enjoy working as part of a team
Can adapt when plans change and think on your feet
Believe everyone deserves opportunities for joy, purpose and connection
Experience of working with people living with dementia is valuable, but we’re equally interested in people who bring the right attitude, empathy and enthusiasm. You might have experience in community work, activities, arts, hospitality, teaching, youth work, care, events, customer service or another people-focused role.
Why join Alive?
Be part of a charity making a genuine difference to people’s lives
Work alongside an experienced, supportive and passionate team
Build meaningful relationships with members and carers
Use your creativity every day
Receive training and ongoing development opportunities
Leave work knowing you’ve made a positive impact
If you’re someone who gets energy from being around people, enjoys creating memorable experiences, and wants a role that combines creativity, compassion and community, we’d love to hear from you.
