Alive has volunteering opportunities across Bristol, Bath, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. See below for our current volunteering vacancies.
Call for Volunteers
We have numerous volunteer opportunities at the moment across our projects and services. Please email your interest to firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more.
Do you speak multiple languages, or translate for a living?
Here at Alive, we really want to make our content accessible to our wonderfully diverse community of older people. Our vision is to be able to translate all our booklets and video content into multiple languages, to better reach those in our community for whom English is not their first language.
This is, of course, no small task, but we’d really like to see it happen and so recognise we need all the help we can get!
If you have an additional language or two and would be willing to translate booklets or create subtitles for our videos, it would be so great to hear from you!
If you have any questions about volunteering please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at email@example.com or call us on 0117 377 4756.
Alive On Demand
Alive are looking for volunteers to provide interesting and creative video content for our Alive on Demand streaming service for older people.
If you want to give a bit of time on a one-off basis and perhaps don’t have the ability to volunteer regularly, could you consider collaborating with us on some video content for our streaming service? Our older people love Alive on Demand, and we are always looking for new content. So for all those dancers, musicians, storytellers, historians, presenters and poets out there, this is the volunteering opportunity for you!
Alive on Demand offers a range of content around music appreciation, movement, guided tours, storytelling and poetry, local history and guided reminiscence.
Check out this YouTube video Alive on Demand at Newbridge Towers – YouTube if you’d like to get more of a feel for what we do and what we’re looking for, and contact us if you’d like to get involved!

Do you love to natter and feel you could facilitate a group chat for older people over the phone?
Even though restrictions have lessened in recent months regarding Covid, for many older people it is still a huge risk to meet face to face and they are not yet comfortable to do so. Alive provides the opportunity for older people to stay connected together by hosting teleconferencing calls for groups, many of whom used to meet together in person before the pandemic hit.
We’re looking for bubbly, chatty volunteers to help us continue this much-need provision for our groups. Volunteers would need to be available from October onwards, and be able to commit to facilitating a group either on a weekly or fortnightly basis (we have four weekly groups and one group that runs on a fortnightly basis).
If you are good with older people, ideally have some prior experience of working with groups, and like the sound of having some great conversation with some lovely older individuals, it would be great to hear from you!
Fancy yourself a bit green-fingered, or want to try something new? Why not help out in our community garden or at our Dementia-friendly allotment…
Alive are looking for friendly volunteers who love to be outside, to help support our two gardening projects. We have both a community garden (in Lawrence Weston) and a dementia-friendly allotment (in Brentry) which we open up for older people to spend time outside and engage with gardening and various nature-based crafts and activities.
Sessions run from 1.30-3.30pm on Monday and Tuesday afternoons (at the allotment), and Wednesday afternoons (at the community garden), with volunteers needed ideally from 1pm to help with set-up.
Do you have a couple of hours to spare on a Tuesday morning?
We’re looking for a group of garden maintenance volunteers to help us with the general upkeep of our Dementia-friendly allotment.
If you’re available for a couple of hours on a Tuesday morning, and are happy spending time outside watering, weeding, and helping to keep the space looking it’s best, we’d love your support!
Are you social media savvy? A master of marketing? Maybe you’re studying and fancy gaining a bit more experience?
If you have anything from a couple of hours to a whole day to spare, and are interested in the world of social media and marketing, we’re looking for a volunteer to help our Marketing Officer with the many needs of our busy charity! Tasks could include: working on social media content, planning and scheduling, helping to write copy and preparing press releases, and updating our video libraries and revising photo permissions/consent. If this sounds like you, please get in touch.
