Alive has volunteering opportunities across Bristol, Bath, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. See below for our current volunteering vacancies.
Alive understands that everybody has a different schedule and we aim to create a system whereby you can volunteer based on your availability and select the times you would like when you like.
We provide training and DBS checks and you will always have the support of staff during your volunteering.
Call for Volunteers
We have numerous volunteer opportunities at the moment across our projects and services. Please email your interest to email@example.com or call us on 0117 377 4756 to find out more. We’re looking forward to having you on board!
Do you speak multiple languages, or translate for a living?
We would really like to make our content accessible to our wonderfully diverse community of older people. Our vision is to be able to translate all our booklets and video content into multiple languages, to better reach those in our community for whom English is not their first language.
For this, we need your help. If you have an additional language or two and would be willing to translate booklets or create subtitles for our videos, it would be wonderful to hear from you! Together we can make older people feel more connected.
Volunteering at Care Home Activity Sessions
Would you like to bring a smile to an older person’s face? Make someone’s day?
By volunteering with Alive, you can join one of our trained facilitators to deliver meaningful and engaging activities in care homes in and around Bristol.
Our sessions include crafts, ballroom dance classes, celebrating special events, tea parties and playing games, among other activities. We are looking for friendly and compassionate volunteers to help us to continue to bring joy to the lives of older people.
COVID-19 guidelines and safety regulations are in place to keep you and our participants safe. These volunteering opportunities will only be available when regulations allow, but please do reach out to us.
Alive On Demand
Alive are looking for volunteers to provide interesting and creative video content for our Alive on Demand streaming service for older people.
If you don’t have the ability to volunteer regularly but would like to be part of Alive, perhaps you would like collaborating with us on some video content for our streaming service?
Alive on Demand offers a range of content around music appreciation, movement, guided tours, storytelling and poetry, local history and guided reminiscence. Check out the platform here and see our promo video here to get more of a feel for what we do.
Our older people love Alive on Demand, and we are always looking for new content. So for all those dancers, musicians, storytellers, historians, presenters, poets and creatives out there, this is the volunteering opportunity for you!
Gardening and Green Crafts Volunteering
Fancy yourself a bit green-fingered, or want to try something new? Why not help out in our community garden, or at our dementia-friendly allotment?
We are looking for friendly and reliable volunteers who love to be outside to help support our two gardening projects. We have both a community garden (in Lawrence Weston) and a dementia-friendly allotment (in Brentry) which we open up for older people to spend time outside and engage with gardening and various nature-based crafts and activities.
Sessions at the dementia-friendly allotment run from 1:00 – 4:00pm on Monday and Tuesdays and from 10:00am – 12:30pm on Wednesdays (fortnightly).
Sessions at the community garden in Lawrence Westom run from 1:00 – 4:00pm on Wednesdays.
Gardening Maintenance Volunteering
If you have any availability during the week and are happy spending time outside watering, weeding and keeping our green spaces looking their best, this role might be for you!
We’re looking for a group of volunteers to help us with the general upkeep of our community gardens and dementia-friendly allotment. Dates and times for this may vary. If this sounds good to you, please get in touch with us, we would be very grateful for your help.
Are you tech-savvy and interested in helping older people to better understand technology? Then volunteering at one of our Tech to Connect workshops might be for you!
Join our dedicated team of volunteers to make technology such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops more accessible to the older generation. Being able to use technology is particularly important for older people in times of COVID-19, so they can stay connected and feel less isolated.
If you want to share your knowledge, are patient, friendly and reliable, then please get in touch with us.
One Good Turn
Our intergenerational project One Good Turn is looking for families with young volunteers aged 5-14 to connect to care home residents through creative activities.
To foster intergenerational connection, One Good Turn aims at connecting young and old via projects such as arts exchanges, making pen pals, shared gardening, and creating ‘jars of joy’ and ‘maps of memory’, among others.
Please reach out to us if your family would like to partake in these fun projects that have brought a lot of joy to participants’ lives.
Are you social media savvy? A master of marketing? Maybe you’re studying and fancy gaining a bit more experience?
If you have anything from a couple of hours to a whole day to spare, and are interested in the world of social media and marketing, we’re looking for a volunteer to help our Marketing Officer with the many needs of our busy charity! Tasks could include: working on social media content, planning and scheduling, helping to write copy and preparing press releases, and updating our video libraries and revising photo permissions/consent. If this sounds like you, please get in touch.
If any of these opportunities speak to you, please send an email to our Volunteer Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or give us a call on 0117 377 4756. If you have any other ideas or would like to volunteer your skills in any other way, please feel free to get in touch too, we would love to hear from you! Thank you!
