Dementia Meeting Centres

2023 will be a busy year for the Meeting Centres as they continue to support people living with a dementia and their carers.

All three Centres celebrate their first anniversary this year and continue to offer much-needed activity, support and friendship.

We’ve loved getting to know the new members and creating a real community. We’ve also had a lot of fun along the way.

We have 66 Members of the Meeting Centre community and are looking forward to welcoming new staff to the team this year – and will hopefully see the numbers of members grow even more.

Our centres currently serve the areas of Nailsea, Clevedon, Portishead, Westbury, Bradley Stoke and Downend – but anyone can come along, even if they don’t live in these areas.

We had a busy Christmas across all 3 Meeting Centres. In Bristol, we had a wonderful fundraising event. The members made and sold many beautiful gifts and managed to raise £352, an incredible amount. In North Somerset, we held a joint party with the conga and lots of singing. And in South Glos, everyone went to a local pub for a celebration.

A valuable part of The Meeting Centres is Carer’s Corner, which gives carers a much-needed opportunity to spend time together talking about their shared experiences and offering mutual support. Carers often tell us how much of a difference we are making to them, one of whom said: “I really appreciate the sessions you run because during those 5 hours, Alive is doing the heavy lifting and I can relax”.
